NEW WORLD UNLTD 3: NORTHWARD EQUINOX
Compiled by GWC, Investigators
SMP No. 31, 2016 | 60 pages, staple-bound | Original edition of 150
Welcome to NEW WORLD UNLTD 3, a collection of works released in observance of the Northward Equinox on March 20th, 2016. Ariel Jackson examines meta-myths, that is to say, "the myth about the myth of you." Andrea Arrubla's poetry collapses lived and projected experience into a lateral expanse of science fiction, colonialism, and unrequited love. Jen Shear's new collage work pits a historical and contemporary narrative of glyphs against one another, hinting at a consistent human crisis of individual versus collective identities. Eileen Isagon Skyers lays out a byzantine textographic map of user commands and pulpy philosophical prompts towards a "Symbolic Event." Sydney S. Kim returns for a third installment of her expanding fiction, Crystallin. Tyler Dusenbury lays the groundwork for WIKIDINGS, a symbiotic, cumulative and degenerative visual language stripped of its meaning, syntax or grammar. Chase Biado's bizarre spin on concrete poetry yanks it from its comfortable habitat in the 20th century and interrogates its value (and values) for the digital native skeptical of anything revered by the Futurists, Dadaists, or Surrealists. Brody Condon's transcriptions from recorded experiences of first-time salvia users provides a ticker throughout the issue, linking ostensibly disparate practices through the vernacular of the adolescent psychedelic sublime. Madame Ennui gets direct with horoscopes.
NEW WORLD UNLTD is produced and distributed by GWC, Investigators in cooperation with Social Malpractice Publishing. Edited by Daniel J Glendening and Michael Welsh, designed by Claire Mirocha. NWU is supported in part by the Calligram Foundation and Portland Institute for Contemporary Art’s Precipice Fund.
